About Us

Welcome to CitJo! Our platform is here to serve you whether you are a citizen journalist or a media buyer. We are here to help the world to shape the news, and make it easy to find stories that would otherwise remain buried in the noise of social media.

CitJo, short for Citizen Journalist, gives newsmakers easier access to on-the-ground eyewitness reports, and uniquely gives citizen journalists a chance to price media they post on social media websites.

A CitJo user, or citjo, can upload their content in one of two ways: either unobtrusive or proactive. The media can then be sold at a fixed price or distributed with a creative commons license, depending on user preference.

Using Twitter:

Twitter may have started out as a way to share personal experiences with little news value, but its worth became clear in 2011.

Activists organized protests, attendees tweeted updates and everyone was posting photos and videos. Everyone was watching the twitter feeds.

That's why we are initially focusing on Twitter users, with potentially extending to Google+ and Facebook. As soon as you post media to Twitter, with the hashtag #CitJo, it will show up in our database, and on our Camera Roll. You can than price the picture, or grant a creative commons license.

The media is then indexed according to type, date/time, GPS location and the hashtags or words in the message. Our CitJo team vets the best material so that media organizations can use your best stuff with ease of mind.

Exclusively CitJo:

Have something really great that you want to sell exclusively? Post it directly to our CitJo server. Post images, videos, editorial, keywords and details of selling directly from our web platform.

In the same way as the first approach, we'll vet the best stuff, and make it available for media buyers to find and use easily.

Regionally Focused:

Our offices are currently based in Cairo, Egypt, and we are keeping our focus the Middle East, a region that has been rich with breaking news stories over the years. The rise of the Arab Spring has put the region at the top of every news agenda. With CitJo, citizens can now contribute solid news stories.

With a strong team, the changing landscape in the media industry and an exponentially growing usage of citizen journalism, CitJo is here to disrupt the news cycle.

CitJo, you get the stories, we get you paid.
